#humpdaycheckdown | Frozen Fish | Dolphins Week

Getty Images

What in the world is going on in this corner of the world!? Buffalo, once a grim shadow of a bright city that once was, has catapulted into the national spotlight. Not only the players and personnel, but the people and spirit of the Queen City.

Not sure about you, but seeing ESPN's Outside The Lines special report on BillsMafia was certainly enough to bring a frog to the back of my throat. I'd be lying if it didn't get me choked up. Well done by everyone involved.

It's been only a few days since Mondays drubbing of the Patriots, but so much to talk about on today's Humpday Checkdown..

Beasie Does It

I hate to say it, but this is what I was afraid of. First was seeing Jordan Poyer go HEAD2HEAD with Cam Newton, and get up like a UFC fighter, exit and then return (scary). Next star waterbug WR Cole Beasley would come up lame in garbage time on a Matt Barkley (unnecessary) pass.

Didn't like the look in the eye or body language of 10 or his teammates in the immediate after. Not good signs. His walk to locker room appeared more confident. Coach McDermott listed Beasley as week to week. The Bills signed Gary Jennings to the praccy and had Kenny Stills in for a visit. No word yet on Stills officially. Even Josh Allen's best bud WR Tanner Gentry from Wyoming is visiting. No word yet.

6,699 Fans Allowed

New York State Governer Andrew Cuomo announced a plan that would include 6,699 fans to sit in the 100 and 200 club level in pods of 2's or 4's. Cuomo would also announce he'd be in attendance. You have to factor in maybe, say 50 players, 4-5 family tickets each, and media.

It's going to bring about a dramatic whirlwind of political bullshit and banter. It's toxic to a good team. It can creep into the heads of young players. It's a distraction.

It's toxic to a happy fanbase. Drama of who goes in, who passes tests, who was where when. Drama of if there should be fans or not. Blah Blah Blah.

Look, whatever. I just hope the team stays focused. The fans ain't gonna matter. The game is played between the lines and in all honesty it'll probably be more of a letdown for players in comparison to the typical noise than anything else.

If they really did it right, they'd have ONLY BillsMafia behind the HOME SIDE. Similar to how Section 6 Football is done, but spread out further. So literally the other side would be crickets, behind the opponents bench..just a thought.

In and Outs

Diggs and Allen were like two kids in a high school video yearbook in their MNF postgame interviews after the game, in all the right ways. They carried themselves with class, but also had a confident sense of self about them.

It seems Coach Mac truly has a way of bringing the real inside out of every player.

It is a strange sport, football.

You have an identity on the field, and off of it.

You have an identity within your huddle, and an identity to the other team.

When the lights go on, the other team thinks of you by only what you do on the field. But its what is inside that comes out.

Josh and Stefon are both guys who have come a long way off the field for this opportunity, and both have proven on the field who they really are, on the inside.

Stay tuned to the end of the week for the weekly Pregame Dump Scouting Report and Preview on the Dolphins. Remember to tweet/follow me on twitter @jer7rej and remember don't let the political stuff take away from the ride! Players.... STAY FOCUSED AT THE TASK AT HAND! #bleumafia

Allen & Diggs Race to Finish Line Over Lowly Bill & Pats

Dependability is something we know as Bills fans. For many years we have depended on the Bills for entertainment, courage, camaraderie. The Bills have worked immensely hard this season to change the dependence. For many years we could depend on the Bills to entertain us, put on a courageous performance, and bring us together with our closest friends an family. This dependence would often lead to a letdown. You could almost unquestionably depend on a letdown. Kinda like cold beer.

I'm not sure if it's the lack of drunk fans or all the money BillsMafia has donated... but we seem to really have some good luck on our side. Karma does seem to be on our side of the coin. The Bills are doing all the right things from the top down, and you can feel it around the city.

Bellichick Will Be Back- But This Was Fun

The old head really took one on the chin tonight. After years of drubbing the Bills and a few really bad primetime beatdowns on undermanned Bills teams, it was Coach Bellichick and Coach McDaniels' turn to look foolish. Outside of a few Cam Newton stumbles, this was a downright beat down. The Patriots roster should be ashamed of themselves. All the losses over the years, and you never saw effort like that. The Bills would never go down that way.

Knowing How to Win

Josh Allen has blossomed better than the girl next door. He has proven what you can do if you have the right team around you, and work on your craft. Many people will forget how much he "struggled" accuracy-wise early on, and as long as he has a few trusty mates around him, we are seriously looking at a Tom Brady esque type all timer here. I have personally seen the wild eye in Josh since the beginning, but there is a desire to win that you just can't teach. He has it. The scary part? Now he's learning HOW to win.

Tua & Fitz Frozen Fish Dinners

Last up on the menu is the floral concoction of porpoise and cocaine that is the Miami Dolphins. I grimly predicted Fitz would walk in here in a big game and show out, and he will certainly try. Our defense is looking very terrifying to play against, no matter where we are. We have played 4 consecutive prime time games, so it will be a bit of a challenge to get up for this last one, but hey.. let's send their asses home too!

Let's go get that 2 seed! Really hoping that Cole Beasley is okay....

Pregame Dump - Bills Preview Patriots Week

Hopefully you all had as good a Christmas as the Bills did this year! Josh Allen bought a set of golf clubs and golf lessons (locally) for his offensive lineman. The wide receivers banded together and bought Wide Receivers' coach Chad Hall a brand new (dope ass) truck. There is something poetic and symbolic about this Buffalo Bills team this year.

That being said.. IT'S GAMEDAY. Let's get right into it. Here's your #bleumafia pregame dump preview for Patriots week...

No Sleep in Boston
Bill Bellichick is the all seeing eye. He is the emperor. He is unquestionably the most cerebral coach in the history of the NFL and should never be underestimated. Fools will joke about how "bad" the Patriots are this year. Don't be foolish. It's one thing to understand how good a team is, but it's something different to assume how BAD a team is. Can't underestimate an angry team with nothing to lose.

Anyone who's played the game knows there's no faking it. Stay ready you don't gotta get ready.

Edelm-in ? or Out?
The sparkplug makes a huge difference. When he's in the huddle, you have another QB on the field. (Don't believe me? Look up his Kent St. Tape) Having him on the field brings the swag level up, the goodvibe level up, and the performance level up. The Patriots won't have him tonight, according to Ian Rappaport. Edelman probably won't suit up again this year. Tough break for a lowly receiving core. Do they have a TE on roster?

Finish Nasty
Seeing Jared Goff get hurt put true anxiety in my belly for our QB. We need him to have any shot at doing anything, is obviously the fear. We can't play with fear. The Bills must maintain a blood thirst for a title. The boys of summer know this is a real deal camaraderie and vibe. Look no further than the WR Truck gesture. Part of that vibe is the never say die attitude that our team brings. We must keep it, retain the 2nd seed, and meet KC in the AFC Championship and fear no one in our path. We lived by it this far, might as well die by it.

Final prediction?
Bills come out and strike to coincide with Pats TO. 14-0 early. Pats come back with a few punches but can't get out of their own way. 21-10 at half. Bills romp on Cam's bad show and he gets yanked and breaks. Pats make it interesting but fall due to lack of depth or leadership. 31-13 BILLS. #bookit

(Disclaimer- If Edelman is a go and near 100%- 31-20 Bills)

Thirsty for a Super Bowl, Bills to See Familiar Faces on Monday Night & Beyond

Written by Jer Mountain - Photo Credit: Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

What challenges do the Bills face these last 2 weeks? This year has been a gloryhole of delight and confusion for Bills fans who never want to wake up from this dream. It's Christmas Eve now, and it's the first time we've walked into the holidays as division champs since the 90's. No NFL Team is hotter than General Josh and the Bois of Summer. Can the Bills truly test the elite NFL teams and make a run at a Super Bowl?

Here's a few challenges they'll face.

The same new/old foes.
The Patriots may not be having a great year. We were one Cam Newton fumble away from being in a position to lose on our own turf to them. Bellichick seems pretty lowly lately, but who's scarier than a genius who's angry? A quad injury has sidelined former Bill Stephon Gillmore for the contest, but don't be surprised to see a tenacious effort. Could Cam be benched for Jared Stidham? How bad is Stidham to not bench Cam? Either way, the Patriots Program will always be devious and dangerous. Get through healthy, and..

Squish the Fish
The Dolphins were downright scary with the Bearded Wonder Ryan Fitzpatrick at the helm. Many were truly decimated in fantasy by Devante Parker's drastic decline under the structured offense with young QB Tua Tugavoiloa. Tua is heralded as if he is a young Prince, and the likes of Trent Dilfer call him "one of the best 4 vertical pass game QB he's ever seen." They will be playing for a place at the table. If the Bills don't stay locked in, they'll get popped in the mouth by Flores Florida' Boys. So what do you do that week? Do you start em'? or Sit em'?

Rest?/Rage?
Football is a hard game. It's not for the faint of heart. One of the hardest things to do in football is fake it. Any lack of effort gets dreadfully exposed on the gridiron. It shows. It can't be played at "half speed." It's difficult to "tone it down." It's almost impossible to "turn it off" once it's on. It's also hard to get into a sweet symphonic rhythm like the Bills have this season.

What we have seen in terms of chemistry reminds the writer of the St. Louis Rams in their first season under an unseasoned, unproven QB in Kurt Warner. He was controlling the field with a Doctorate of football in Mike Martz on the sideline. The athletes produced everywhere, and it was a feel good story. No one believed he could do it until he did. Warner would have been around 28 at this stage of his story. Allen is only 24.

This is special like that was though. Brian Daboll, the man well traveled is still relatively young in comparison to Martz is nowadays, but his execution and wizardry has hit groundbreaking level the same way Martz' did with the weapons provided to him. Daboll is 45, Martz would have been 49 in 2000.

It's been a long time since there's been a team (other than the Chiefs) that has this much explosive power on the outside. Kurt Warner didn't have quite the cannon Josh Allen has. If the Bills can get their work done, they are good enough to beat anyone. Just as long as they don't beat themselves.

It's hard to not party like it's 1995 when you're the AFC East Champs for the first time since literally 1995. The problem is we haven't technically finished the job yet. Yours truly is confident we can get it done. The AFC is LOADED. We must enjoy every moment but also live it like there's no tomorrow.

Stay healthy on and off the field if your the Bills right now. If there's anything that the old Bills like Kelly and Reed and Thomas should be teaching the Young Guns right now..it's that they can DRINK BEER later in life. Don't fuck this up by popping the champagne too early..like the Bills and Bills fans of the 90s did..

It's hard to achieve chemistry between Coach, QB, and team like this.
It's also hard to sustain it. Don't lose focus. Stay engaged. Stay humble.
How will the Bills respond to these last 2 weeks?
Can they stay injury free and stay hot through 2 divisional foes?
Who will Santa bring for Coach Mac? Colts? Browns? Ravens? Titans? Could we avenge the Music City Miracle at home and rewrite history in front of no fans? Stay tuned...

Don't be afraid of anyone! Beat everyone!

Merry Christmas Bills Mafia!

AFC East Champs | General Josh & 'Gary' Hughes Shine Bright

Broncos don't have enough men to stop General Josh and the Bills Army. Time and time again the offensive line was able to withstand the onslaught of blitz packages. A great day for the offensive line protecting Josh Allen. He finished 28/40 for 359 and 4 total TDs. Defense held Denver to under 270 total yards on offense and made Drew Lock look like he wasn't allowed to dance, much like Juju Smith-Schuster.

There's nothing funny about having to play this team for NFL opponents right now..

Buffalo had a challenge and opportunity presented to them today that no Bills team has had since 1996. The Broncos presented a unique challenge, but Buffalo proved superior and a true test for anyone in the AFC in 2020. Here's your post game wrap for Broncos week!

More Pretty Ball

It was once again a beautiful display of offensive football for the Bills. The staff had an outstanding game plan to overcome timed blitzes and get our speed in space.

The Bills this year are truly demonstrating a mastery of pass game the likes of Warner's Rams, as Josh's Jaq's are tasting better and better than those soggy old Flutie Flakes. Taste the greatness Buffalo.

The prettiest play of the entire day with the ball in hand may have come from Defensive End Jerry Hughes. (Gary Hughes according to Maddy Glab)

WR Coach Chad Hall Deserves a Hand

Diggs, Beasely and Davis have become the most sure handed group of WRs in the league. Their match ups will stifle any defensive alignment as they present a unique set of challenges. No matter what you do, one of the 3 has a unique opportunity at a 1 on 1.

You may have seen another blonde haired guy on the sideline jumping around this year, none other than former NFL slot WR Chad Hall. Daboll gets a lot of the credit, but QB coach Ken Dorsey and Chad Hall do too.

Takeaway Tre & Jerry Score Big

You often hear how teams should be playing their best football of the year at this time. This idiom typically surrounds the offensive side of the ball, but it certainly applies here when talking about the team in it's entirety. Though a forgivable blip shows up on the turnover side for Andre Roberts, all 3 phases are playing at a high level.

The defense may just be playing the best ball they have all season long. And that could lead us a long way..

High Times for Bills Fans

The Bills trip to Denver turned out to be a great one. The Bills now sit atop the AFC East for the first time since December of 1995. About a year after Super Tecmo Bowl III was released on Super Nintendo. No matter how old you are, if you were a fan during the dark years or the best years... enjoy this Buffalo. We deserve it!

This is a great time to be a Buffalo Bills fan. Next up is the lowly Patriots on primetime. We will need a strong showing to continue the dream season.

LASTLY-Even the superstar Pat(rick) Mahomes took notice of the unstoppable force that is General Josh and His Army.

Pregame Dump | Scouting Report Broncos Week

The Bills can become the NFL's first team to have more than 12 players catch a TD in one season. No team in history has ever done that. Josh has spread the ball around to a myriad of targets, and it's been fun to watch.

Vic Fangio will be prepared for the Golden Retriever Josh Allen, and also the Aaron Rogers 2.0 Josh Allen. The Broncos may or may not have their QB of the future yet, but Fangio is known for his creativity and ingenuity on defense. For any fans..forever or new fans of the Bills- here's your #pregamedump for Broncos week..

5-8 in the NFL Ain't Bad

Don't let the record fool you. Don't forget (2 years ago) when each season we were the sad sacks hoping for a grim 5-8 team to unseat a hot potential division champ. The NFL is arguably the most competitive league in the world, the top 2000 football players above the NCAA in the world.

The Broncos are young, well coached, and not in an easy division. This is an opportunity, but also a challenge.

The Broncos are a part of the AFC West, ruled by the Chiefs, but also home to the Raiders and Chargers, two teams we didn't exactly roll over.

Don't Count Spicoli Out

All jokes aside, Drew Lock has a spark. He has a juice about him that does have some skill to match. He's an SEC QB who threw a lot of touchdowns against the best NCAA competition.

He has the keys to Elway's castle. The Broncos haven't had a QB with as much appeal since the Lefty Angel Tim Tebow. He is not afraid to sling it. This should matchup well with a game plan based around bend but don't break.

3rd Down Stops & 4th Down Steals

The Bills have been great the last few weeks defensively on 3rd down. According to @buffalobillsPR the Bills are 2nd in the league the last 3 weeks holding opponents to a 27% conversion rate on 3rd down. The LA Rams hot Defense led by Aaron Donald are the only team better during this stretch.

Sitting at the top of the NFL in 4th Quarter Takeaways? The Bills at 12, Rams 9, Giants and Colts tied for 8. We really know how to put the nail in the coffin. This could loom large for Spicoli.

Sharing the Rock

The Bills can become the NFL's first team to have more than 12 players catch a TD in one season. No team in history has ever done that. Josh has spread the ball around to a myriad of targets, and it's been fun to watch.

I refer to Cole Beasely as the Rodeo Clown- Out of pure respect. His dazzling route running and courageous evasiveness can only be compared to the rodeo clown sent in to save the cowboy.

Beasley and Diggs can certainly eat up targets. With over 70 catches and 4 TDs each, they've been everything for our Cowboy.

The only other terrible twosome to tear up the pass game with those types of numbers? The tag team of Hill and Kelce in Kansas City. Hmm.. Rematch anyone?

Fearless is an Attitude. Courage is a Decision.

There is a time and a need for both for a Quarterback. Sometimes, it's fearlessness you need to exhibit to your team, your opponent, and the crowd. Sometimes its courage.

What's the difference?

Think about Josh Allen 2 seasons ago- a fearless, reckless abandon. Now think about Josh Allen today- still not afraid, but a different cool confidence.

Courage comes from respect for your opponent. Fearlessness learns that respect. Vic Fangio will respect his opponent and Josh Allen will respect his.

I Expect Drew Lock to get a big lesson in Courage Vs. Fearlessness. Despite Fangio's defense causing some early hiccups and a slow start, maybe even a bad TO, Buffalo's goals loom too large for a Cinderella story.

26-14 Bills. #bookit.

Bills, Buffalo Sitting a Mile High - #HumpDayCheckDown Broncos Week

The Buffalo Bills are 10-3 and now facing the most pressure of any team since the 90's, but you wouldn't know it. There is a cool confidence about this team, and this culture. There is certainly a different sway about the locker room. You can see it in the eyes, and in the body language. The players, coaches and personnel all clearly demonstrate a winning attitude, and it has provided Western New Yorkers with a bode of confidence. Here's your #humpdaycheckdown for Broncos week.

Diggs Digs His New Digs

You just love to see a guy thriving. Stefon Diggs has done just that this season. Since he first walked up to the building his drip has made waves in the organization. No one has ever walked into praccy with such dignified swagger.. We featured the entrance over on @rejandthezoo last summer..

When you work or play next to someone who is supremely confident in his ability and expects you do to the same, it feels good. It's clear that he and Allen have a very similar demeanor and approach to the game and life, and they both have fit the Buffalo uprising better than anyone could have expected.

Feliciano, Poyer Step Up for What's Right

If you haven't heard about Domonique Foxworth's comments yet, you can find them here. He's already gotten too much press if you ask me. BUT.. Bills leaders Jon Feliciano and Jordan Poyer were vocal on Twitter about speaking up against everything that Foxworth represented and, well.. that's just representative of this team. Leading this whole damn country by example.

Lead. Endure. Win...Together as one. That's what this season is all about, and we could all take a page from what Poyer is saying. And by the way- racists or bigots-you're not allowed on this train.. This is the NEW America's Team!

Party-Boy Drew Potentially Locks Himself In a Glass Case of Shame

Look I love a good hot rod young gun at the QB position. There's just something a bit different about Lock. He's got all the shimmy and sizzle but none of the steak. He seems cool to party with, but then show up late and make the whole team run. He seems like the type of guy who'd tell you a chick isn't good for you at the end of the school year and then you see him at the lawn fete with her a few months later. Allen has trained with many of these other young QBs, and he was complimentary of Lock's dance moves, jestfully. Lock seems to really love the spotlight and a good challenge, as he basically WWE called out Takeaway Tre...

I don't expect the boys to take kindly to those comments.

It Won't Be a Cake Walk

The Broncos have underachieved this year. The ultimate low obviously when all 3 quarterbacks were disciplined for not wearing their masks and they started Kendall Hinton versus the Saints. If you've seen them play, you know that the QB can certainly make a play or 2, and he will make you hear about it if he does. Melvin Gordon dealing with DUI court this week and Von Miller still out with injury helps the case for a decisive victory Saturday.

Full prediction coming Friday for Saturday kickoff!

Stay tuned to #bleumafia for quick unique Bills coverage and don't forget to follow me at @jer7rej! Want to contribute to bleumafia? LETSGO- just dm me or email me at jer7rej@gmail.com! Go Bills!

Body Shots Leave Ben's Career in the Cold Bathroom Stalls of Ralph Wilson Field

Photo by Timothy T Ludwig/Getty Images

Another tough prime time match up, another glorious victory for the 2020 Buffalo Bills. The cagey Bills were able to dismantle the AFC darling Pittsburgh Steelers to earn another notch on the respect belt. Here we are following another late night snack on Sunday Night Football and we are still looking sexy.

Mike Tomlin Wanted a Fight

And he got it. The Steelers allegedly practiced "in pads" on Friday, despite their 3 games in 11 days or so. The locker room material signifier of a "padded praccy?" A dog fight. A street fight. A bully is coming to the 716. Though Josh and the team appeared a bit wobbly at times in the first half, response was that of a drunk Bills fan taking a urinal-line fist to the skull. A smile- a half dazed check of a beer spill, and carry on.

Did anyone else see Mike Tomlin get absolutely destroyed on the sideline?- Satisfying play of the day by Dawson Knox.

Big Ben took it on the Body

This wanabe reporter live tweets before during and after every game, and I repetitively tweet at a few defensive (and maybe some offensive leaders) each week a message. This week's message was to leave Big Bens career in a symbolic coffin in a dark cold silent Orchard Park graveyard.

The body shots proved to soften Ben's reserve and his soft eyes showed a man who's career was spiraling into a pit of a long history of civil lawsuit question marks. As the nasal wonder himself Chris Colinsworth said on Sundee night...

A Star is Born

A few stars have been aligned this season in a constellation never seen clearer than the Kellesius-Reedan-Thurmanoisis first seen in the 1990s. Astrologists for many years will talk about how the way Beane-strodomus was able to arrange this cast of characters and provide a gallelio-like prophecy of influential greatness that is Josh Allen, Stefon Diggs, The rodeo clown Cole Beasley and Gabe Davis. Don't forget John Brown is sitting injured reserve.. this offense has serious STAR POWER.

It certainly seems as though thus far, despite so many Western New Yorker's not being able to watch this team play in person live, this season is a season of destiny for the Buffalo Bills. Anytime you can take a few punches from a Bully, and still come out on top with your boys surrounding you dancing on the grave of a longtime AFC leader..

You've got yourself a real life General. Lookin' at you Josh Allen.

Shine on You Crazy Diamond | Bills Deliver on Primetime

A rare nearly flawless performance by Josh Allen coupled with dignified and disciplined football was more than enough for the Bills on Monday Night. The Bills not only showed that they most certainly belong in the discussion for the AFC, but surely won the hearts of anyone they just met around the country. Here are a few takeaways from the game.

CAN YOU DIGG IT

Stefon Diggs has once again demonstrated why Brandon Beane whisked him away secretly to Tempo last winter. (Still wonder if that really happened?) He and Josh have danced together this season at a level that we haven't seen since Fitzy and Stevie, and this makes that look JV at best. The dazzling display of Dance Dance Revolution route running is something to behold, and though he is slight he handles contact like a true warrior.

AJ and Milano Work

Buffalo's love affair with Matt (Not Mike Theo Riddick) Milano was missed, as he flew around the field alongside AJ Klein. It wasn't an all around dominating performance from the defense, but overall what we are doing is effective. The defense is rope a doping in a controlled chaos that is downright impressive. For every quick Nick Mullens drive to impress, there were defensive stalemates to match. Micah Hyde stuffing the goal line will never be forgotten.

The Bills Have Made It.

2020 has brought a whole lot of confusion to the world. One bright spot has been the Buffalo Bills. With Dallas irrelevant, Brady withering, Bellicheck and Cam Newtons hair, and Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs on the verge of their heel turn- to unbeatable Pats like greatness... I think it may be time for America's team to spend some time in Western New York. With an adorable Air Bud like Josh Allen, the Buffalo Brand of football is surely to continue to go viral globally.

Josh Allen Has Made It.

What Josh did tonight wasn't only historic for the Bills. He became the Bills 1st player to ever throw for 3 games over 300 yards and 4 TUDS. Only Fitz and Kelly had done that 2x in a season before. He also did this.

Pittsburgh Is Shaking in Their Boots

Not only is it good that Buffalo can take the pressure off themselves to be the one to undo Pittsburgh's undefeated plans... Alex Smith went all Lieutenant Dan on Big Ben and the boys and took them down in the early slate. Buffalo is coming off a powerful win, and Pittsburgh is down Bud Dupree, along with possibly sidelined and recently concussed Joe Haden.

Based on how the eventual Comeback Player of the Year Alex Smith was able to throw to XFL WRs and Logan Thomas against the Big Bad Steelers, Josh is licking his chops. Of note- Terry Mclaurin was shut down- so expect our other guys to need to step up this week. Defense heal up because SF was just a preview of the physicality!

Overall it was a beautiful night to be a Buffalo Bills fan. Here's to a great Victory Tuesday and onto next week!

If you needed any further proof that General Josh stole the show...Even Dwight Chimed in..
